Jean-Louis Vincent Farmer

A figurative painter and draughtsman employing primarily oil and charcoal, Jean-Louis Vincent Farmer draws inspiration from a wide range of subject matter, including ‘treescapes’, interior scenes, and industry – in particular the offshore oil and gas industry, where he has spent several years working. Linking all of his work, certain key themes remain integral to his vision and approach. “The effects of light are perhaps the first aspect of any scene that will catch my eye and draw me in, especially where that light is trapped within a space or structure, imparting a resonance, a glow that feels almost self-generated. Line, too, is a crucial element– the way it serves to describe structure, form and movement. It’s not necessarily a visible line, but you can perceive it; it’s implied”.
