My background is in painting but I take an interdisciplinary approach to my practice creating work that ranges from video and installation to painting with oils and watercolour. Recent projects have investigated themes such as: geometry; duality and non-duality; creation myth; impermanence; and Five Elements Theory, which I draw on from my knowledge of and practice in Shiatsu and Chinese Medicine. Hybrids & Glimpses is a recent and ongoing project that examines the metaphysical idea in Five Elements Theory that there are different vibrational energies manifest in the universe, which are in a constant state of flux. One of the ideas behind this work is that objects and energies can be in various stages of gathering or dispersing. Works emerge through a process of calculation and impulse and as inscriptions of a series of fleeting moments. In playing with scale, macrocosms and microcosms are created, often depicting the energies of Water, Wood, Earth, Fire, and Metal. Shapes of the Universe is another ongoing project. Here I explore my fascination with geometry, an interest that dates back to my childhood. Using geometry as a basis for subjective exploration, I have fun with discovering new and unexpected forms and gaining insight into the relationships between the parts of the whole.
