Flit, Julia
Julia Flit is a Kazakhstani artist based in London whose work explores the subconscious, emotion, and transformation through underwater photography. Working in a multilayered, intuitive process, she uses water as a co-creator – a space of fear, fluidity, and rebirth. Her images reflect liminality: a suspension between states, where identity dissolves and reforms. Influenced by Ana Mendieta and metamodernist thought, Julia’s work oscillates between vulnerability and strength, clarity and obscurity. Through vivid colour and symbolic gesture, she seeks to compress time into a single image – revealing what often remains hidden. Her practice is both a personal ritual and an invitation for viewers to confront the unseen within themselves.
