Johnstone, Isobel

A Scottish painter living in London who enjoys painting abroad, often in Venice, and now finds subjects here which she can explore through her skill with colour. In Dorset a beautiful Spring and Summer made it possible to paint endlessly out of doors. In London a sadly closed Hammersmith Bridge turned from a source of frustration to one of fascination.

She works directly in oils, draws a lot – people and places.  Her linocuts and etchings explore familiar themes as well as Diversity.

Isobel Johnstone is widely experienced in contemporary art, having studied Fine Art in Edinburgh and taught at Glasgow School of Art before working for many years as Curator of the Arts Council Collection, at the Hayward Gallery in London’s South Bank Centre.
