Du, Jinsu
Jinsu Du (Lao Du) was born in China and started taking drawing lessons at the age of nine. At nineteen, he was admitted to the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. Following his graduation, he worked as a stage designer, newspaper cartoonist and art editor. In 2010, Lao Du rented a studio in the artist village Songzhuang near Beijing and pursued his personal artistic projects. Since relocating to Germany in 2020, he has dedicated himself to full-time artistic creation. Lao Du often experiments with different materials, among them oil and acrylic on canvas as well as ink and watercolor on paper. He also integrates discarded objects into his paintings. Lao Du’s works are inspired by scenes and atmospheres from his extensive journeys. His thematic focus is on the relation of humans and nature, and animals and trees are major elements of his paintings, often in surprising combinations. His works have been exhibited in China, Italy, the United States, Germany, and Canada.
