Maeda, Izumi

Izumi Maeda is a Japanese-born sculptor based in East Sussex, UK. Her practice explores the meeting point between mathematics, nature and human perception through hand-built sculptural forms.

Inspired by structures such as the Möbius strip and the saddle form, her work investigates formative forces, their transformative potential, continuity, and the traces that exist before and beyond material form. Rather than reproducing mathematical models as fixed archetypes of form, each sculpture evolves through an intuitive process of manifestation, allowing its metamorphic potential to emerge through the dialogue between material, human touch and the creative process.

Clay is not simply a medium but a means of exploring the living relationship between geometry and organic growth, precision and imperfection, permanence and change. Every sculpture is individually hand-built, making each piece unique.

At Untitled Artists Fair, Izumi presents a selection of sculptures from her ongoing Vestiges series, inviting viewers to reflect on form, transformation and the unseen forces that shape the material world.
