Katy Jackson

An artist and illustrator based in South London, Katy creates her artwork using the traditional printmaking technique of etching. Using fine layers of aquatints (melted rosin dust) on a polished copper plate, and then painting acid on the plate with a spit-bite technique. She gradually builds up tone and textures by exposing the metal to acid for different lengths of time. The metal plate can then be inked up ready for printing. A lot of planning is involved but with the complexity of the etching process there are always surprises and experimentation.
Katy’s current work is concerned with the tension between society and environment.
