Christensen, Catalina
Catalina Christensen is a London-based artist, pigment-gatherer, pigment-maker and pigment-collector whose practice is deeply rooted in landscape and memory. Influenced by her travels and time immersed in nature, her paintings seek not to replicate the physical world but to express its essence: atmosphere, light and presence, through a distinctive, evocative visual language.
Driven by ecological concerns, Catalina made a pivotal shift in 2015 toward an environmentally responsible practice. She began working with egg tempera, incorporating natural, sustainably sourced materials whenever possible, striving to make her studio process as environmentally neutral as possible.
Experimentation plays a central role in her work. Fascinated by the alchemy of traditional techniques and the transformation of raw materials, Catalina engages in a process that is as much about discovery as it is about creation. Her work invites viewers into an immersive experience, one that connects art, place and the natural world.
