Cornwall, Susie
Susie’s paintings aim to capture the viewer’s imagination and create a lasting emotional and intellectual connection. Through still life, she explores the beauty of everyday objects, natural forms, and found items, focusing on the interaction of light, colour, and texture. She is especially drawn to the way light passes through glass, water, and petals, transforming and distorting form across reflective surfaces.
She graduated from Middlesex University in 1988 with a degree in 3D Design, and her technical painting skills are entirely self-taught. Working in a classical realist style, Susie often crops compositions to create intimacy and suggest a larger narrative beyond the frame. Each arrangement is observed from life inside a black box using directional lighting to shape atmosphere and shadow. She exhibits throughout the year, represented by A3 Contemporary, and also shows work independently. Painting on cradled panels, she builds layered tonal works over 6 to 15 hours, combining precision with intuition
