Hill, Gillian

Gilly was born in Zambia and spent her formative years and twenties in Zambia and South Africa. Her pursuit of painting began after owning an art gallery in the UK. She studied art in South Africa and UK and now regularly exhibits around Gloucestershire.

Drawing inspiration from the interplay of light, shapes and colour, Gilly’s style is expressive realism. Working in oils, her paintings are usually Afrocentric in theme and as an avid birder her avian artwork is from her own photography.

In 2023 her painting “On the Road 2” was selected for the Royal Academy of Art Summer Exhibition and sold on the opening might. In 2025 two of her avian paintings were selected for the Society of Wildlife Artists’ Exhibition “The Natural Eye’.

Gilly is a founder member and treasurer of Gloucester Contemporary Artists.
