Sara Jacobs Majekodunmi is a multi-disciplinary artist of British and Nigerian origin who paints immensely highly decorative art which is most often derived and inspired by different cultures, predominantly Nigerian and Japanese artefacts patterns and textiles by bringing in painted studies of these images her work tells a story of history and travel.
Sara graduated from Berkshire College of Art & Design with a Degree in Fashion and textiles and later graduated with a BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture and uses her artwork as a backdrop for the inspiration behind her interior settings. With a background in fashion and textiles, her preference is for indigo dyed fabric patterns and the language of the Nigerian people of Cross River state as well as Japanese influences, these influences can be seen across her work. Sara predominantly uses oil paints, a medium inherited from her grandmother Nora Majekodunmi who was a pivotal figure in Lagos, Nigeria’s art circles in the 1960’s. Her Grandmother Nora Majekodunmi was also a strong supporter and patron of the Zaria Art Society and many years later, some of her work was sold at Bonhams auctioneers in London in 2023. As a result of Sara’s heritage, Sara’s artworks hold artistic legacy and cultural significance.
