Lindsay, Claire

Claire Lindsay is a South Wales based, self-taught contemporary artist working primarily in acrylic;creating bright, often fluorescent, abstract paintings that explore the tension and paradox betweenpast youthful freedom and the formal identities required within adult corporate life.Influenced by Pop Art and Surrealism, lived corporate burnout, and the sensory excess of raveculture; Claire’s work combines graphic imagery with gestural mark making to examine themes ofmemory, emotional masking, overstimulation, and psychological fragmentation.Motifs used are based on Claire’s own photographic collection and function as a psychological self-portrait; mourning the loss of youthful intensity, recklessness, emotional freedom, and collectiveeuphoria beneath the pressures of adulthood, corporate conformity, and social expectation. Incontrast Claire’s use of bright fluorescent palettes acts as both celebration and façade, seductive surfaces masking anxiety exhaustion and internal conflict.Through layering, repetition, and disruption Claire creates paintings that balance attraction with unease, exploring the unstable space between authenticity and performance, nostalgia and disillusionment, chaos and control.
