McCormick, Jo

Jo McCormick works across different mediums and genres with bold expression. Her practice spans three decades. Jo has a BA from De Montford University and a London Studio with Art Hub CIC, experience of working with public bodies and institutions such as the Fashion & Textile Museum, The Royal Academy of Arts and The Ikon Gallery, and exhibiting nationally and internationally. Engaging in creative play to explore free expression, Jo believes in the power of art to enhance our spiritual and physical wellbeing. Painting for Jo is a visceral process, she immerses herself in creative flow using scumbling, impasto and wet into wet. Colour is vital to Jo’s practice and she uses simultaneous contrast of colour and colour theory to enhance the vibrancy of her chosen media. Jo’s oil paintings have been described as psychedelic Victoriana. They contain covertly political messages and diverse imagery collaged together to produce a playful and humorous open narrative. Her collage, watercolour and printmaking practice is often more traditional. With a keen understanding of how art materials interact and a passion for experimentation, Jo expresses her unique vision of the world with courage and joy.
