Shield, Katie

I am a mixed media artist with a particular interest in textiles and paper.  I use printmaking and mark-making to create base fabrics and papers from which I make abstract forms which are then stitched into and embellished.  The inspiration for my work always begins in the discovery of beauty and mystery in found objects and surfaces.  So often we ignore what is under our feet, what surrounds us in our daily lives and fail to see the history and stories in the mundane.  My work celebrates the colours, textures and fragility of the world around us and encourages the viewer to imagine the history and process behind the object before them.
